Baseball

Commissioner - Bruce Heitzman

The NUMBER ONE GOAL of the Forks Baseball Program is to provide the opportunity for EVERY child to play baseball regardless of their abilities. We try to provide something for everyone. We have teams and leagues for the player who wants to play school baseball or beyond as well as teams and leagues for the player who just enjoys playing baseball.

  1. T-Ball 6U - This is for boys age 5-6 only. The league is noncompetitive and looks to improve athletes' abilities. Athletes will be hitting off a tee and start to learn the basics of swinging; and will also learn the basics of catching and throwing. They will begin to learn the strategies of base running and strategies of the field.
  2. Coach Pitch - This is for boys ages 7-8 only. The league is noncompetitive and looks to fine tune athletes' abilities. Athletes will have a coach pitching to them from the mound. The athletes will begin to fine tune their hitting, catching, and throwing capabilities. They will learn more about the strategies of the field and base running.
  3. Baseball 10U - This is for boys ages 9-10 only. Athletes will begin to pitch and start to learn the basics of pitching and catching. They will fine tune their hitting, catching, and throwing capabilities. The athletes' skills that they learned for the field and base running will be challenged throughout the year.
  4. Babe Ruth 12U - This is for boys ages 11-12 only. Athletes will begin to fine tune their hitting, pitching and catching skills. The strategies of field and base running will be a big part as the athletes learn more than the basics. Athletes will begin to work on strengthening their arms and bats.
  5. Junior Legion 15U - This is for boys ages 13-15 only. Pitching is becoming an integral part of the game. Pitchers will strengthen their arms and also learn different ways of pitching. Hitting will improve, as well as the field strategies and base running.
  6. Senior Babe Ruth - This is for boys ages 16-19 only. This is the last year the boys will play in Forks Township. They will use all their skills they learned to fine tune their games. Athletes will improve and fine tune their hitting, throwing, strategies, running, and pitching throughout the year.

Basketball

Commissioner - Jeff Baker

Forks Township plays its games in the Community Basketball League which was founded by Forks Township and 5 other municipalities 40 years ago. The CBL has grown to what is believed to be the largest youth basketball league in the state of Pennsylvania.

  1. Boys/Girls Instructional Clinic - This is for boys/girls that are 5-7 years old. The clinic meets one night per week for 8 weeks beginning in January. The focus is on proper technique, ball handling, and defense, but this is not a team environment and no games are played.
  2. Boys Instructional/Girls Instructional - This is for boys/girls that are 8-9 only. There is a separate instructional league for each age level. Athletes will begin to learn the basics of passing, dribbling, and shooting. The fundamentals of the sport, sportsmanship, and team work will be the main topics during this instructional period.
  3. Boys 9U/Girls 9U - This is for boys/girls that are 9. In this league the boys/girls will learn more of the basic fundamentals of basketball. They will start to improve on their shooting, passing, and dribbling. They will continue to work on their sportsmanship and team work.
  4. Boys 10U/Girls 10U - This is for boys/girls that are 10. Athletes will begin to work harder on their shooting, passing, and dribbling skills. They will start to learn the basics of running plays and how to work as a team to accomplish one goal. The boys/girls will not only work on offensive strategies, but also defensive strategies.
  5. Boys 11U/Girls 11U - This is for the boys/girls that are 11 only. Athletes will tune up their skills that they have been taught throughout the past years. They will begin to work on plays for both offense and defense. They will be taught good sportsmanship and team work.
  6. Boys 12U/Girls 12U - This is for boys/girls that are 12. Athletes will begin to fine tune their basic skills and acquire more advanced skills. They will work on their shooting, passing, and dribbling through different defenses; they will also work on trap offenses.
  7. Boys 13U/Girls 13U - This is for boys/girls that are 13. In this league it becomes more apparent that teamwork is the key. The boys/girls will start to rely on team members and strategies to achieve success. They will also fine tune their skills.
  8. Boys 15U/Girls 15U - This is for boys/girls that are 14-15 only. This is a highly competitive league. The boys/girls will showcase their abilities that they have gained throughout the years they played. Their skills will continue to develop during the season, but they will fine tune their shooting, dribbling, and passing skills.

Cheerleading

Commissioner - Melody Talpas

Forks Township Cheerleading is a part of the Blue Mountain Valley League. The cheerleaders cheer for the Forks Falcons Football Team.

There are four Cheerleading Squad levels:

  1. Jr. Pee Wee - 2nd grade, 7 years old
  2. Pee Wee - 3rd grade, 8 years old
  3. Jr. Varsity - 4th grade, 9 years old
  4. Varsity - 5th-8th grade, 10-13 years old

Cheerleaders learn jumps, arm levels, voice projection, smiling, stunts, cheers, and dance routines. They also are taught spirit, teamwork, sportsmanship, leadership, and dedication.

Practice begins the first week of July and is held two to three times a week. The practices last from an hour and a half to two hours and are held near the Forks Township Community Center.

Football games begin the last week in August and are held Thursdays and Sundays. The football games are approximately an hour and a half long.

The cheerleaders also participate in Community Days and a few Cheerleading Competitions. The season is over approximately by the end of November.





Football

Commissioner - Fran Tone

  1. Flags - This players who do not turn 7 before September 1. Athletes learn the basics of throwing, catching, and running the ball. There is no tackling in this league. They will learn formations and strategies of offense and defense, and the importance of teamwork.
  2. Junior Pee-Wee - This is for players under 80 pounds and who do not turn 9 before September 1. Athletes will learn the basics of tackling and will fine tune their throwing, catching, and running skills, as well as begin to fine tune their offensive and defensive skills by adding plays and formations.
  3. Pee-Wee - This is for players under 100 pounds and who do not turn 10 before September 1. Athletes will perfect their tackling and defensive skills. Throwing, catching, and running will be more apparent and be developed throughout the year. Athletes will add more plays and formations to their playbook for both offense and defense.
  4. Junior Varsity - This is for players under 120 pounds and who do not turn 11 before June 1. Athletes will perfect all of their skills in this league. They will work on offensive and defensive skills. The boys will start to focus on a single position. Athletes will focus on skills that strengthen and develop them as well-rounded players.
  5. Varsity - This is for players under 140 pounds and who do not turn 13 before June 1. Athletes will perfect all of their skills in this league. They will work on offensive and defensive skills. The boys will start to focus on a single position. Athletes will focus on skills that strengthen and develop them as well-rounded players.

Soccer

Commissioner - Chris Forister

  1. Co-Ed 6U - This is for boys and girls age 5 only. The athletes will learn the basics of soccer. They will learn to kick properly, to play goaltender, to pass and dribble, to use their head, and to play safely. The boys and girls will work together as a team to achieve the main goal.
  2. Co-Ed 8U - This is for boys and girls ages 6-7 only. The boys and girls will fine tune their skills of the game. They will learn to kick farther, to handle the ball , and to use proper head-ball techniques. The goaltenders will work on their ability to catch, punt, or throw the ball.
  3. Boys 10U/Girls 10U - This is for boys/girls ages 8-9 only. Boys/girls will tune up their skills of ball handling, kicking, head-balling, and throw-ins. They will learn the basics of passing and dribbling. Athletes will become more aware of the field and how to use the field to their advantage. Goaltenders will work on their throwing, punting, and catching skills.
  4. Boys 12U/Girls 12U - This is for boys/girls ages 10-11 only. The athletes will fine tune their skills in passing, dribbling, handling, and throw-ins. The coaches will add plays for dead balls and corner kicks. The athletes will become accustomed to a position and develop the skills for that position. Goaltenders will work on their throwing, punting, and catching skills.
  5. Boys 14U/Girls 14U - This is for boys/girls that are 12-13 only. The athletes will strengthen their skills for their position and learn plays and strategies that work best for their teams. Athletes will strengthen their skills in handling, dribbling, and passing the ball. Goaltenders will work on their catching, throwing, punting, and ability to read the field.
  6. Boys 16U/Girls 16U - This is for boys/girls ages 13-15 only. Athletes will work on perfecting their skills for their position. Goaltenders will fine tune their punting, catching, throwing, and ability to read the field. Offensive players will work on their shooting and passing skills while defense will work on their stopping and passing skills.





Lacrosse

Commissioner - Kelli Wilson

  1. Boys 9U - This is for boys ages 6-8 only. The boys will learn the basics of the game. The athletes will focus on throwing and catching, as well as how to cradle and carry the ball in the stick. The goaltenders will learn how to stop and throw the ball.
  2. Boys 11U - This is for boys ages 9-10 only. Athletes will fine tune their catching and passing abilities. The goaltenders will focus on their ability to stop the ball and to read the field. The teams will learn plays and formations.
  3. Boys 13U - This is for boys ages 11-12 only. Athletes will fine tune the skills they have learned throughout the years. Offensive players will focus on offense while defense players will work on defense skills. All athletes will fine tune their passing, catching, and handling skills.
  4. Girls grade 1/2 - This is for girls in 1st or 2nd grade. The girls will learn the basics of the game. They will focus on passing, catching, and handling at first, then move onto team plays and formations. Goaltenders will begin to work on their skills of passing and catching.
  5. Girls grade 3/4 - This is for girls in 3rd or 4th grade. The athletes will fine tune their passing, catching, and handling skills. The goaltenders will tune up on catching and passing.

Softball

Commissioner - Ed Nash

  4. Majors 12U - This is for girls ages 11-12 only. Athletes will fine tune their hitting, pitching, and catching skills. The strategies of field and base running will play an important role as they learn more than the basics. Athletes will work on strengthening their arms and bats.
  5. Juniors 14U - This is for girls ages 13-14 only. Pitching is becoming an integral part of the game. Pitchers will strengthen their arms and learn different styles of pitching. Hitting will improve, as well as field strategies and base running.
  6. Seniors - This is for girls ages 15-19 only. This is the last year the girls will play in Forks Township. They will use all of the skills they learned to fine tune their game. Athletes will improve and fine tune their hitting, throwing, strategies, running, and pitching skills throughout the season.

Wrestling

Commissioner - Mike Johnson

Wrestling is for k-6th grade. Beginner wrestlers are taught the basics of wrestling; and as they progress through the seasons, they will learn the skills and strategies of becoming a great athlete. They will wrestle in weight classes and not by age or grade level.





Field Hockey

Commissioner - Judy Hollenbach

The FTYSO is offering a Field Hockey program this year for girls entering grades 2nd -6th grades. The goal is to provide an enjoyable learning experience for all the participants. The emphasis is to teach the basics of the game and the importance of sportsmanship and teamwork. All girls will have the opportunity to play and experience all positions.

  1. Grades 2-4 - This is for girls in 2nd - 4th grade only. The athletes will learn the basics of playing field hockey. The coaches will teach the girls how to use the equipment the proper way and the beginning strategies of the game. They will learn how to play as a whole team in efforts to become well rounded players.
  2. Grades 5-6 - This is for girls in 5th - 6th grade only. The athletes will strengthen their skills in all areas of the game. They will continue to play as a team and become well rounded players.
