FORKS TOWNSHIP HISTORICAL SOCIETY

DONATIONS HELP PRESERVE FORKS TOWNSHIP HISTORY - WAGON RESTORATION FUND

Built in the early 1900's by Cyrus Graver, who operated a blacksmith shop in Forks Township, the wagon was used to sell door to door. It came to the attention of Earl Smith, a deliveryman. He contacted Harold & Elsie (Graver) Babp, who bought it and returned the wagon to Forks Township. In 2004, Tony Malinowski and Chuck Petersen donated it to the Forks Township Historical Society.

Through many contributions, Forks Township Historical Society has met its' needs in their goal of reaching the amount necessary to help restore this wagon. We have a state grant that requires matching funds collected as well.

With all donations, contributions, and the state grant, we had it restored at Double E Carriages in Lancaster County. Once restoration was complete we had thoughts of having it displayed at the Forks Township Fire Department, due to the fact that Cyrus Graver was a charter member of the first Forks Fire Department. However, today you can see the newly restored wagon inside the Municipal Building Lobby entrance.

The Forks Township Historical Society would like to thank everyone for their continued support. We appreciate your efforts in helping us to beautify and preserve Forks Township history for future generations. We are happy to announce the newly restored wagon and are proud that it has been brought back to its' original state and its' hometown!

Please feel free to stop by the Municipal Building to see this beautiful piece of history. (April, 2008)
